In our everyday busy life we don\’t have the time to think about what is happening in other parts of the world, we often do not think twice about the privileges that we have and we forget about the fact that in some parts of the world people struggle to survive. I decided to open my eyes to the world a bit more this year by volunteering in Lima, Peru this summer with Medlife.
Lima is the 4th largest city in the Americas and is the home to 9 million people. However, it is also home to extreme poverty. More than 1 million people live in small shacks on the rocky hillside putting themselves in danger everyday. Many do not have access to drinking water or electricity and live in constant danger. Children lack proper healthcare, education and their parents are unable to find work yet alone provide for the family.
Medlife organisation works to improve the living standards of these people and aims to create a safe environment. Every year thousands of volunteers save many lives and do all they can to help out the locals. This year I will be one of them.
I will be helping out at mobile clinics alongside local doctors to provide free, high-quality healthcare to families and people in need and will take part in infrastructure projects to create a safer environment for residents by coming up with sustainable solutions to local problems. Together with other university students and volunteers I will be carrying out basic medical check-ups, organising educational workshops and development projects to help out families in need. However, I will not be able to do all this without your help.
By donating to my website you will not only help me to go on my dream adventure but you will also help me to help them. Help the people that were not as lucky as we were and those that live in danger everyday. All the funds raised go to the Medlife project fund of which 100% is used for the construction of staircases, schools and safe homes and to hire local doctors and health professionals to help out people like us on the other side of the world.
Together, we can help them and also become better people. Your small donation will make a big difference in the lives of the poor and will make one young traveller beyond happy.
