Dear Friends and Family,
As most of you know, I am now a sophomore at UW Madison studying neurobiology on the pre-med track. Something you may not know however, is how passionate I truly am about pursuing medicine. My ultimate goal for the next three years is to build my academic resume and gain relevant experience in hopes of being accepted to study at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Medical School.
Last year, I joined a club called MEDLIFE. As an active member, I have the opportunity to hear medical professionals speak about their careers, volunteer in my community, and travel abroad on Service Learning Trips. As you might imagine, the last of these opportunities has excited me the most as it is an opportunity to get hands on experience in the medical field. This January, UW Madison’s MEDLIFE chapter will take a two-week Service Learning Trip to Lima Peru. I have signed up to participate in this trip and am thrilled to partake in such an opportunity. As a volunteer on this trip, I will work closely with medical professionals and community leaders to help deliver medical services, educational workshops and development projects to families in need. I have been so blessed to grow up with all the health care and education on healthy living I could ever need; that, however, is not the case for so many people around me. Promoting healthy living, developing proper health care facilities, and providing necessary medical attention are the first steps towards prosperity for underprivileged communities and these are the very steps taken in the MEDLIFE Service Learning Trips.
If it is not obvious already, I am so excited to go to Lima this winter. There is so much to gain from an experience like this but that unfortunately does not mean there is no cost. I am reaching out to you in hopes of receiving your support on my journey to Lima. My goal is to raise $1,500 which would cut my personal trip cost in half. Any donation would be so immensely appreciated. If you do choose to donate, 95% will go directly towards funding my personal trip (flights, housing, food, and participation costs) and 5% will go towards the broader MEDLIFE organization.
Each year, MEDLIFE at UW Madison takes two Service Learning Trips. I want to raise enough money to make my participation in this trip realistic and to open the door to more service trips in the future. If you have any questions about what I will be doing in Lima, what MEDLIFE is, or any other related questions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org; I would be more than happy to share more information with you. Please consider supporting my participation! Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my journey.
